In 2020, nearly half of the division's $66 million in research funding came from the National Institutes of Health. The division supports robust career development opportunities for its investigators to ensure future success of its mission of providing the best care to every patient, every day. The division supports and maintains fundamental, laboratory-based research programs as well as clinical research programs focused on pathophysiology, epidemiology, innovative diagnostic tools and the conduct of clinical trials. The primary research goal of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is to create scientific discoveries relevant to gastrointestinal and liver diseases and translate those discoveries into clinical practice.
